Webcourses Boot Camp Prepares Faculty, Staff & Grad Students for UCF Online

The Rosen College of Hospitality Management hosted its first Webcourse Boot Camp on November 13 for faculty, staff and graduate students. Representatives from The Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) conducted a one-day session covering a variety of different subjects related to Webcourses.

The purpose of the boot camp was to refresh and update participants on effective tools and techniques for both undergraduate and graduate courses, highlighting examples and best practices in the following areas:

  • Course content coverage
  • Module design
  • Effective assignments
  • Effective use of graphics
  • Copyright issues
  • Tools to create course recordings
  • Tools to prevent student cheating
  • Integrating Turnitin or iThenticate
  • Accessibility issues and tools
  • Test bank storage
  • Providing proof of activity for academic performance (for financial aid)
  • Badging
  • Use of social media
  • Integrating course rubric into speed grading
  • New Webcourses developments
  • Tools to enhance global competence
  • “We were delighted to offer this career development opportunity to our faculty to improve their online education skills and support our strategic alignment with UCF Online,” said Dr. Abraham Pizam, dean of Rosen College.

    A total of 26 people attended the Webcourse Boot Camp, including Rosen College faculty, staff and graduate students. Attendees received a certificate of achievement at the end of the boot camp.
