The March 27 event, at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl, will help bring together needy families and individuals with public and private resources to help them achieve self-sustainability. The College of Medicine’s Human Resources team is supporting the event as part of the “Jobs and Job Readiness” team. College of Medicine faculty physicians are assisting on medical care teams. Volunteers are also needed to provide support and information in areas including housing, legal services, food support, spiritual support and dental care.

Organizers hope to get more than 5,000 community volunteers to participate.

He Got Up runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with two-hour volunteer shifts available if you can’t work the entire day. Volunteers will receive lunch and a locker.

Floyd Sturdifen, human resource coordinator at the College of Medicine, is participating and urges others to join him. “He Got Up provides yet another avenue for me and all of us to directly give back to our community,” he said. “Plus, I am part of the UCF Knight family, where we pride ourselves on being ‘The Partnership University’ and a leader in our community. I do not believe there is a better way to demonstrate leadership and commitment than through service. The people are coming, so it is just a matter of whether not we are going to be there to help guide them in the right direction.”
