UCF Offers Active Shooter Response Training Dec. 1 and 2

While the chances of being involved in a violent incident are small, it is still important to know how to act in the event of an emergency.

UCF Emergency Management and the UCF Police Department are teaming up to offer a series of classes to teach students and faculty and staff members how to think and act quickly in the worse-case scenario.

Shots Fired is a two-part class that educates attendees about the UCF Alert emergency notification system and the “Run. Hide. Fight.” method of reacting to an active shooter.

Five classes will be offered between Tuesday, Dec. 1, and Wednesday, Dec. 2. They will be:

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in room 106 of Classroom II

3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 in room 106 of Classroom II

6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in room 207 of Classroom II

8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Dec. 2 in room 201 of Classroom II

10 to 11 a.m. Dec. in room 201 of Classroom II

“We wanted to reach out to the entire UCF community, and especially students,” said Ari Schein, Training and Exercises Coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management.

“In light of recent international and domestic incidents, this training is critically important for everyone,” Schein said. “The focus of the training is on knowing how to think and respond during a crisis scenario regardless of your location.”

More than 4,100 students and faculty and staff members have completed the Shots Fired training.

The class also has been offered online to students and faculty and staff members since January 2014.
