UCF in Focus: New Photography Feature

UCF in Focus, a new series beginning today on the UCF Today website, will feature photographs taken by members of the UCF Photography Club from around the campus and around the world.

The UCF in Focus series is coordinated by the university’s News & Information office and will include a different image each week. Each posted photo will include descriptive information about the shot and metadata about the camera, lens, lighting and shutter speed.

The club hosts regular meetings, instructional programs, “photowalks” and monthly photo competitions.

Club president Michael Mendonca, a senior accounting major from Boca Raton, said there are about 350 members on the club’s Facebook group.

The next activity is a photowalk at the Winter Garden Farmers Market on Oct. 6, and the next club meeting is at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in Room 112 at the Nicholson School of Communication. The meeting program is open to everyone and will be about post production using Photoshop, Nik Software and other technology.

To find out more about the club and its activities, go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/photographyclubatucf/ [1] – and keep looking for UCF in Focus photos.

Today’s first UCF in Focus photo by club member Erin Barbeau shows sanderlings bathing in a tide pool at high tide. Sanderlings, a type of sandpiper, are normally skittish shorebirds, but the photographer said the birds were preoccupied while splashing about, which allowed her to approach at close range to take the photo.
