Track: Scott Wins World Games Gold

Aurieyall Scott walked away with a gold medal on Monday at the World University Games in an event she wasn’t even supposed to compete in.

Both websites for USA Track and Field and Kazan 2013 have Scott’s entries in the 200 meters and 4×100 relay listed, but there is no mention of the 100M.

Yet, Scott delivered Team USA’s first gold medal of the meet and made history in the process as UCF’s first medalist at the World University Games.

Decked out in Team USA red, Scott improved with each round. She clinched her heat in the preliminaries with a time of 11.49 before advancing to the finals with the fastest semifinal time of 11.38.

She clocked 11.28 (-0.2) to edge Lithuania’s Lina Grincikaite by four-hundredths of a second for the gold.

The University Games are held every other year and are organized by the International University Sports Federation. It is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17-24, and are or have been within the past year, a student at a college or university.

She will compete in the preliminaries of her signature event, the 200 meters, Tuesday.
