Update: The UCF Police Department raised just over $520 during Friday’s Tip-A-Cop event. The department extends a big thank you to all who donated– your support is appreciated!

Original story:

Officers from the University of Central Florida Police Department will collect money from Chick-fil-A diners in support of the Special Olympics.

The Tip-A-Cop event will start at the Chick-fil-A at University Boulevard and Rouse Road at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 29.

Officers will fundraise on the drive-thru line and inside the restaurant, helping to raise awareness and money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Officers will shadow Chick-fil-A employees and speak with patrons about the Special Olympics. Anyone who would like to give to the cause can donate a “tip.”

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the largest grass-roots fundraiser for the Special Olympics, raising more than $461 million worldwide for the movement.

UCFPD, a supporter of the Torch Run, has this year raised more than $9,500 and earlier this month participated in the annual State Summer Games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
