The Sky is the Limit for Capstone Winners

A team of five students, known as “4 Gentlemen & 1 Lady,” won the annual Great Capstone Case Competition by proposing a plan for Allegiant Airlines to rent Apple iPads during flights.

Team members Chris Chuck (leader), Lisa MolinaChad ColeAlder Dehner and Akash Patel devised a strategy for the airlines, a relatively new entrant in the regional airline industry, to rent iPads that would be pre-configured with games, movies and e-books for passengers to enjoy while traveling. The team was from Chaim Letwin’s lab, and was one of 18 teams out of 100 to make it to the semi-finals.

The second place team named “Team Prosperity,” from lab instructor Leslie Connell, included Keiron Ramoutar (leader), Rachel AnemaJunior Correa, and Geron Singh. The third place team, “Knights Movement,” was from the lab of Christopher Leo and included Frank Gonzalez (leader), Ashergay ChambersDaisy DaimwoodTaylor Traback, and Kevin Trickey.

The overall course was directed by Dr. Bob Porter, lecturer in the Management Department. The competition was enhanced by UCF College of Business Administration faculty Kathie HollandMike CiuchtaMike O’DonnellRichard QuinnPhyllis HarrisDarryl RiceCarl BlenckeSean McMahonRegan Stevenson, and Ghada Baz who acted as judges for the semifinal round.

College of Business Administration Hall of Fame members Bob Case, ‘70 and Paul Gregg, ’74 and ’76 were the judges for the final round and selected the order of the five winners. Bob Case offered the following insight to the five final teams of students at the conclusion of the competition, “It seems like each semester the teams get better and better in our Capstone Great Case event. One thing I can promise each of you students is that you will always be proud of having a degree from UCF and you will find it serves you very well!”

The Great Capstone Case Competition is held at the end of each semester and is designed to help students strengthen their analytic, communication, presentation and teamwork skills beyond the classroom by developing recommendations for real-world business issues.
