Student Health Services Earns Accreditation

UCF Student Health Services has successfully completed a rigorous review of their program by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

Founded in 1979, AAAHC is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation with nearly 5,000 organizations accredited nationwide.

AAAHC accredits a variety of ambulatory health care organizations, including ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, college student health centers, managed care organizations, military health care clinics, large medical and dental practices and medical homes.

SHS has been granted a three-year term of accreditation. This is the sixth successful AAAHC review for SHS.

The assessment was conducted by two experienced surveyors who reviewed compliance with over 400 required standards. These standards involve areas such as Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Governance, Administration, Quality of Care, Quality Improvement, Clinical Records, Infection Control and Environment of Care.

Besides for reviewing SHS policy and records, the surveyors inspected the main Health Center as well as their facilities at Knights Plaza, College of Medicine, and the SHS Alcohol and Other Drug clinic. In addition, many staff members were separately interviewed.

Traditionally, the two-day survey is finalized with a summation by the surveyors. During the SHS summation both surveyors commented that UCF SHS was one of the best institutions they had ever evaluated.

”Achieving and maintaining accreditation demonstrates our strong commitment to provide excellent healthcare to UCF students,” said Dr. Michael Deichen, director of UCF Student Health Services.
