QPR a thon: Suicide Prevention Training

[1]

Suicide can be prevented. Suicide is a serious public health problem that affects people of all ages. It is the tenth leading cause of death for Americans and the second leading cause in the college-age population. However, people rarely communicate openly about suicide, which hinders effective prevention.

On March 27, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) trainers will be offering suicide prevention training during the QPR a Thon – Suicide Prevention Training. The event will be held in the Student Union, Room 316AB beginning at 9 a.m. and with a new training starting on the top of each hour with the last training being offered at 2 p.m.

QPR is a program designed for everyone to learn what can be done to prevent suicide. The training session is a one-hour presentation where the attendee will learn the signs of suicide and three basic principles of how to help save a life. QPR, hosted by Counseling and Psychological Services, is designed for students, faculty and staff.
