National Violence a Wake-Up Call to Respect

The below note from Vice President Maribeth Ehasz and UCF Police Chief Richard Beary was emailed to students and faculty and staff members Tuesday, July 12.

Incidents of violence in Louisiana, Minnesota, Texas, Michigan and around the country are frightening and heartbreaking. The victims are our brothers, our friends and our neighbors.

During times like these, it is important for us to come together, support one another and learn from our shared experiences.

Collectively, we must take a stance against hate, violence and social justice disparities. We must also learn to see each other and know that we are more alike than we are different.

In tribute to the lives taken, let us commit to rejecting hatred and embracing our neighbors. Let us all remember that UCF is stronger when we stand united as one caring, inclusive and diverse community.

Let us also remember to take care of ourselves.

If you are feeling upset, confused or simply need someone to talk to, counselors are available to students by calling 407-823-2811 and pressing 5. If you have been impacted by violence in any way, students and faculty and staff members may also contact Victim Services at 407-823-1200.

As we mourn the victims and pray for their families and friends, join us in moving toward healing and understanding. We stand for peace.
