Aurieyall Scott, UCF’s first NCAA champion in athletics history, recently signed an apparel contract with Nike.
The Greenbelt, Md., native signed with Global Athletics in August, deciding to forego her senior year of eligibility. She is currently enrolled in classes and is on pace to finish her degree in interdisciplinary studies in Summer 2014.
Global Athletics represents many of the nation’s top sprinters, including two-time World Champion Jessica Beard, Olympic silver medalist and USA champion Tony McQuay, Olympic champion and world record holder Bianca Knight and USA champion Shalonda Solomon.
“When I came to UCF, I wanted to do something that no one else had before. It was a tough decision to leave, but I am really excited about moving on and representing Nike,” Scott said. “Even though I won’t be wearing Black and Gold anymore, this team will always be a part of me. We accomplished a lot, and I’m proud of the time I spent here.”
During her collegiate career, Scott became the most decorated All-American in program history (14 honors, indoor and outdoor). She was an 11-time champion and 14-time medalist at the indoor and outdoor conference championships and the first athlete, male or female, to reign as the Conference USA Outdoor Championships High Point Scorer of the Meet for three years straight.
She made history as the first Knight to win an NCAA title, claiming gold in the 60 meters at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships. She also earned a silver medal in the 200M.
At the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships, she was a part of the runner-up 4×100 relay squad and clinched bronze in the 200M.
At both meets, she was a part of two top-five team finishes and was also a member of UCF’s first top-10 national ranking during the outdoor regular season.
As a result of her outstanding efforts during 2013, she was named the USTFCCCA South Region Indoor and Outdoor Athlete of the Year, C-USA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and C-USA Female Athlete of the Year (overall).
She has already represented her country proudly in a number of competitions. In 2011, she emerged as the USA Junior Champion in both the 100M and 200M. A year later, she was one of two collegians to reach the 200M finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials. Although she did not clinch a bid to London, she did earn two gold medals (100M, 4×100 relay) for Team USA that summer at the NACAC Championships in Mexico.
She advanced to this year’s 100M finals and 200M semifinals at the USA Senior Championships and traveled to the World Championships as a member of the 4×100 relay pool. In July, she captured Team USA’s first gold medal (100M) at the 2013 World University Games, breezing through each round with the field’s fastest time. She also claimed silver with USA’s 4×100 relay.
