With artworks that blend photography and sculpture, to those that challenge personal beliefs, and others that play on memories, the 2014 Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition will be shown March 6-21 at the UCF Art Gallery.
Seven artists will be featured in the “Down the Rabbit Hole” show that the artists describe as a “chaotic descent into the psyche culminating in discovery.”
The artists in the show are:
Shelly Bradon, whose mixed media is a reflection on the victories and struggles of an 8-year-old girl with physical disabilities.
Stephanie Cafcules, whose work is influenced by both art history and nature, and shows a process of transforming synthetic materials physically and chemically.
David Dannelly, whose short narrative animations use philosophy, theology and media theory to analyze and critique popular media culture.
Emilie Finney, who says her work reflects how “language defines meaning – and meaning defines intent.”
Jay Flynn, who challenges expectations of the viewer by using a combination of contemporary and historical photography with sculpture.
Samuel Jimenez, who recreates scenes from his past that reflect the ambiguous nature of memory.
Ivan Riascos, whose photographic and sculptural icons reflect a personal revisioning of Scriptures.
A reception with the artists will be held 6 to 8 p.m. March 13. Guitarist and singer John Lazar will perform at the reception.
The gallery is at 12400 Aquarius Agora Drive, and regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
