Community Summit to Address Food, Faith, Farming and Climate Change

The 8th annual UCF Community Summit on Environment and Global Climate Change will be held today, March 25, at 3 p.m. in the Cape Florida Ballroom of the Student Union. Featured speakers include food and faith speaker Fred Bahnson and climate security expert Andrew Holland.

Bahnson is the director of the Food, Faith, and Religious Leadership Initiative at Wake Forest University School of Divinity. In his book, “Soil and Sacrament: A Spiritual Memoire of Food and Faith,” Bahnson describes how people of different faiths all over America are reconnecting with the land and learning, through small farms, to nourish their souls in a different way.

Holland is the American Security Project’s Senior Fellow for Energy and Climate. He is a Washington-based expert on energy, climate change, and infrastructure policy who is widely cited in the media on these issues. He has over seven years of experience working at the center of debates about how to achieve sustainable energy security and how to effectively address climate change.

The summit, organized by the UCF Global Perspectives Office, is a co-curricular component of the UCF General Education Program unifying theme “The Environment and Global Climate Change.” The event is free and open to the public.

In addition to the Global Perspectives Office, in partnership with UCF Office of Undergraduate Studies, other sponsors include UCF SGA, The Burnett Honors College, UCF Global Peace and Security Studies Program, UCF Isle of Man Small Countries Program, UCF Diplomacy Program, Chastang Charitable Foundation, American Security Project, UCF Political Science Department, UCF LIFE and the Global Connections Foundation
