Financial aid experts from the University of Central Florida will help families navigate the process of obtaining federal assistance for college during this weekend’s College Goal Sunday.

The event is part of a national effort to help families with the financial aid process and provide access to higher education.

UCF will host College Goal Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 12, in the Key West Ballroom, room 218 A&B of the Student Union. Free parking will be available in Garage A at the intersection of University and Gemini boulevards.

Students who plan to enroll at any university or community college are welcome to attend. The event is open to all students but is primarily designed for high school students and their families.

College Goal Sunday presentations will begin at 2 and 3:30 p.m. There also will be a presentation in Spanish at 2:45 p.m. Staff members who speak Spanish will be available throughout the event to help families and translate information.

Attendees can benefit from free, on-site professional assistance with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. This is the form that helps students access billions of dollars in federal funds available for college.

In order to complete the FAFSA at UCF on Sunday, it is recommended that students and parents bring their filed 2011 tax forms or their W-2 forms if they haven’t filed their taxes yet. Students and parents are also encouraged to apply online for a Federal Student Aid PIN number before the event.

College Goal Sunday is funded nationally by Lumina, a private, independent foundation that strives to help people achieve their potential in education beyond high school. Florida’s events are coordinated by the Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, or FASFAA.
