Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research Organizes Forum in India

UCF’s Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research will participate in a joint U.S./India workshop Jan. 6-7 in Mumbai, India.

This is first joint workshop on the research challenges and opportunities of turbine machineries for sustainable, efficient and clean power generation and aviation at the Indian Institute of Technology, said Subith Vasu, an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at UCF and one of the organizers of the event.

The workshop, funded by the Indo-U.S. Science & Technology Forum, will bring together scholars and subject-matter experts from universities, governmental agencies, and industries from the two nations. Workshops will cover topics such as alternative fuels for transportation, long-term reliability for wind turbines, rural distributed generation through micro-turbines, and other fields.

“Global partnership will play a bigger and bigger role in development of future technologies,” Vasu said. “This workshop will promote both global partnership and student participation. Such a workshop is very timely and necessary as energy is touted as one of the grand challenges facing human civilization.” The workshop is intended to lay the foundation for discussion and bilateral collaboration.

Also on the organizing committee is Jayanta Kapat, director of the Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research.
