The University of Central Florida will honor veterans Nov. 6-14 with a commemorative ceremony, job fair and other activities. UCF is ranked one of the best universities in the nation for veterans by offering support services along their journey toward graduation and has been ranked as “military friendly” by G.I. Jobs magazine.

Highlights for the week include:

Thursday, Nov. 6:

  • The week will begin with a continuing-education workshop for licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors presented by the UCF School of Social Work and the College of Health and Public Affairs. “Reintegrating America’s Returning Warriors: A Cultural ‘Boot Camp’ for Clinicians” will be held in the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center from noon to 5 p.m. Guest speaker Jeffrey S. Yarvis, of the University of Southern California School of Social Work will lead the workshop. Proceeds from the event will support scholarships for students in the UCF School of Social Work.     • Friday, Nov. 7:

  • The Veterans Commemoration Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the UCF Veterans Commemorative Site on Memory Mall. The ceremony will feature the UCF Brass Quintet, Air Force ROTC Color Guard and guest speaker Matthew M. Carter II, a member of the State University System of Florida Board of Governors.
  • To help local veterans and their families find work, Wells Fargo and the UCF College of Business Administration will host the second annual Central Florida Veterans Job Fair. The job fair will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Venue on the UCF main campus. Register here to attend. The job fair, offered in partnership with OrlandoJobs.com, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Teledyne Oil & Gas, Verizon and Central States Enterprises, will match motivated veteran job seekers with top employers from around the region.

    • Saturday, Nov. 8:

  • Knights for Veterans will participate in the Orlando Veterans Day Parade. Knights for Veterans is made up of the UCF Air Force ROTC, UCF Community Veterans History Project and the Veterans Academic Resource Center. The parade will start at the corner of Orange Avenue and Robinson Street in Downtown Orlando at 11 a.m. For parking details and more information click here.

    • Wednesday, Nov. 12:

  • The Psychology Department will host a Veterans Research Symposium at 10 a.m. in Room 301Q of the Psychology Building.
  • The Veterans Academic Resource Center and VITAL invites all veterans to a cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the VARC Patio near the CFE Arena.
  • VARC and the UCF Community Veterans History Project will hold a speaker series titled: “Lessons for Today’s Veterans.” The event will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Morgridge International Reading Center. Speakers include Brian Craig Miller of  Emporia State University, Emmy-nominated filmmaker Joseph Sousa, and Wounded Warrior amputee Taylor Urruela, a retired Army sergeant.

    • Thursday, Nov. 13:

  • Orlando VA’s VITAL program will host the Student Veteran Allied Faculty training program for UCF’s faculty and staff from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 221 in the UCF Student Union Garden Key Room. The training was created to help educate UCF faculty and staff about specific student veteran challenges such as military culture, student veteran challenges, how to work with and help student veterans, and resources for student veterans.   • The UCF Community Veterans History Project will honor UCF faculty and staff at Veterans History Story Day in Colbourn Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The UCF Office of Diversity and Inclusion and UCF Career Services will host a movie night with the film “Red Tails,” based on the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen. The film will be shown at 6 p.m. in Room 121 of Career Services. The movie presentation will be followed by a discussion.
  • VARC will also host “Flag Day: UCF Student Veterans Appreciation” at Memory Mall. One American flag for every student veteran will be placed in Memory Mall to honor the students who have served the country.

    • Friday, Nov. 14:

  • Guest speaker retired Col. Richard Toliver of the U.S. Air Force will share his experiences that motivated him through the Civil Rights Movement and what inspired his first book, “An Uncaged Eagle.” The event will be held in the Career Services building, Room 121, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • The week will conclude with UCF’s Military Appreciation Game between the Knights and Tulsa beginning at 8 p.m. at the Bright House Networks Stadium. All active duty, reserve and retired military personnel with valid ID will receive complimentary admission and their guests can purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $15.
