TVs, electronics, food, clothing, household goods and all kinds of other items donated by students moving out of UCF residences will be delivered Wednesday to the Bithlo-Christmas Neighborhood Center for Families to help those in need.

About 6,900 pounds of donations have been collected for this year’s Student Move Out Recycling Project and sorted for delivery, said Amy Childs, coordinator of Housekeeping & Recycling Services.

UCF has donated the collected items annually since 2002 to the neighborhood center, which is one of 13 funded by the Orange County Citizens’ Commission for Children.

The centers made up of nonprofit organizations, government agencies, places of worship, and community groups work together to provide family-friendly accessible services and activities to families in their neighborhoods.

“The Housekeeping & Recycling team is the logistical force behind the donations but would all be impossible without students contributing to the effort, for which we are grateful that we can find a use for the many items they have donated,” said Brian H. Wormwood, associate director of Facilities Operations.
