UCF Wins National Diversity Award
The University of Central Florida this week was awarded the 2013 Institutional Excellence Award by the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education.
The award will be presented at the associationâ€™s annual conference March 4-6 in Washington, D.C.
Christine Stanley, chair of the associationâ€™s Inclusive Excellence Awards committee, said the award recognizes institutions â€śthat have shown demonstrable progress in promoting and sustaining innovative diversity efforts within their campus community such as the efforts you illustrate in institutional leadership, institutional transformation, recruitment and retention, outreach, and professional development.â€ť
Dr. Valarie King, director of UCFâ€™s Office of Diversity Initiatives, said she is pleasedÂ with the award because â€śout of the many universities in the U.S., my peers selected UCFâ€¦This is beyond my wildest dreams.â€ť
Barbara Thompson, training coordinator for Diversity Initiatives, is scheduled to represent the university at the awards presentation.
