UCF to Host Emergency-Preparedness Week March 25-29

UCF will host a week of events aimed at helping students, faculty, staff and community members prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

Called KNIGHTSHARE, short for KnightS Helping Advocate Resiliency in Emergencies, training, expos and other activities will be held from March 25 to 29. The week’s activities are sponsored by the UCF Office of Emergency Management.

“UCF takes safety and preparedness very seriously.  The courses will not only teach our community how to live a safer life at UCF but will provide them with life lessons that they can use where ever they are,” said Jeff Morgan, UCF’s emergency management director. “This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn how to be more prepared.”

Highlights include CPR, suicide prevention and first-aid training as well as Shots Fired classes that teach attendees about UCF’s mass-notification system, UCF Alert, and how to think quickly and act smartly during emergencies.

The KNIGHTSHARE Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 pm Wednesday. In Student Union Room 218, emergency responders from UCF and local, state, federal and non-governmental organizations will offer attendees information on how to be better prepared for emergencies. Local agencies also will showcase the equipment they use during emergencies. The display will be on the south end of Memory Mall, near the Veteran’s Commemorative Site.
