UCF to Hold Commencement Ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 4

The University of Central Florida’s two summer commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, at the UCF Arena, where more than 3,500 students are expected to graduate.

A 9 a.m. ceremony will be held for anticipated graduates from the College of Arts & Humanities, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Graduate Studies, Office of Undergraduate Studies, and the Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

A 2:30 p.m. ceremony will be held for anticipated graduates from the College of Engineering & Computer Science, College of Health & Public Affairs, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Optics and Photonics, and the College of Sciences.

Doors to the Arena will open about 90 minutes before each ceremony, and graduates will begin processing about 20 minutes before each ceremony, which are expected to last about two hours.

The morning speaker will be Dale Brill, president of the Florida Chamber Foundation, which is the research and policy development arm of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Brill previously served as director of the Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development.

Winter Park Mayor Kenneth W. Bradley will be the guest speaker at the afternoon ceremony. Bradley, the campus CEO of Winter Park Memorial Hospital, earned a Master of Business Administration at UCF and is a member of the UCF Foundation Board of Directors.

Those expected to walk across the stage Saturday include 2,877 students who filed intents to receive bachelor’s degrees, 542 for master’s degrees, 1 for an education specialist degree, 9 for education doctoral degrees,76 for Ph.D.s, and 1 for a Doctor of Nursing Practice.

With this week’s expected graduations, UCF will have awarded 234,784 degrees since classes began in 1968.

Tickets are required for guests to attend the ceremonies and are available from graduates. Guests without tickets are welcome to view closed-circuit telecasts of the ceremonies from the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center across the street from the UCF Arena, and on Campus Cable Channel 21. Ceremonies also can be viewed online at http://webcast.oir.ucf.edu.

Parking for guests will be available in garages C, D and H.

Gemini Boulevard will be closed from North Orion Boulevard to West Plaza Drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate pedestrians.
