From a commemorative service to a military-themed movie night, the University of Central Florida will honor servicemen and women with a week full of events in observance of Veterans Day.
Several university departments and community organizations have collaborated to develop the events to be held next week following Veterans Day, which will be observed Nov. 12. Everyone in the UCF community is invited to help honor veterans.
Here are the events:
Tuesday, Nov. 13: A Veterans Commemoration Ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Commemorative Site on Memory Mall, followed by an open house at the Veterans Academic Resource Center.
A “Thank a Veteran” letter-writing campaign will be hosted at the Student Outreach Services Lounge at the UCF Cocoa and Palm Bay campuses.
A “Care Package for our Troops in Afghanistan” Packing Party will also be held. If you are interested in donating items to contribute to the care packages, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
Wednesday, Nov. 15: Student organizations are sponsoring information tables during Market Day at the Student Union. Information from campus-based services and programs will be displayed.
Thursday, Nov. 15: UCF Film will host a movie night with two military-themed films shown and refreshments served by UCF’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta National History Society. The film Why We Fight will be shown at 6:30 p.m. and Twelve O’Clock High will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in Nicholson School of Communication, Room 145.
Friday, Nov. 16: The Psychology Department’s Trauma Management Therapy program will host a two-part research colloquium titled, Student Veterans: From the University of Warfare to the University of Central Florida, and Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder:Trauma Management Therapy at UCF. The program will be at 10:30 a.m. in the Psychology building, Room 105.
The week will conclude with a Ruck Sack March hosted by the Camaraderie Foundation. Interested participants should register online at www.camraderiefoundation.com.

Also, as an additional benefit for veterans, the inaugural Central Florida Veterans Job Fair is being planned for Feb. 22 at the Venue on campus. The College of Business Administration’s Office for Career Connections and OrlandoJobs.com will hold the fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. .
The purpose of the event is to match veterans with top employers from around the region while raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The service event is being organized and managed by MBA students enrolled in the one-year cohort program, which includes some veterans.
