UCF Symposium: K-12 Literacy Instruction, Development

Instructing reading and writing in an age of new educational standards will be the focus of 16th annual Literacy Symposium, hosted by UCF’s College of Education and Human Performance.

The free conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Education Complex.

The symposium is open to all pre-kindergarten through high school teachers, staff and administrators. The day will focus on celebrating literacy and learning, and this year’s theme is Informational Text in the Age of New Educational Standards.

Mark Aronson of Rutgers University will be the keynote speaker, presenting “Why Is Nonfiction Defined By What It Isn’t?” Other topics include the Common Core State Standards, literacy development, vocabulary and comprehension, and college and career readiness.
