UCF Students to Honor MLK at Downtown Orlando Parade

UCF students will join others Saturday to recognize and remind the community about the legacy of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

About 100 students will participate in the 32nd annual downtown Orlando Martin Luther King Jr. parade from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

With the theme “Remember, Celebrate, Act! King’s Legacy of Freedom for Our World,” the parade will begin at the corner of Livingston Street and Orange Avenue near Lake Eola.

Knightro will also walk with the students, who are sponsored by UCF’s Multicultural Student Center. This is the fourth year a group from UCF has participated in the event.

The Southwest Orlando Junior Chamber of Commerce organized the parade and expects about 8,000 spectators to attend.

“It is important to honor Dr. King’s legacy by participating in this event to demonstrate that college students are committed to building a better society by collaborating with the local community,” said Whitney Watkins, a graduate teaching assistant and coordinator of the student initiative.
