UCF Professor Named Outstanding Sport Scientist

UCF associate professor Jeffrey Stout was honored recently for his contributions to the science of exercise and sport.

Stout, the coordinator for UCF’s Sport and Exercise Science program, is the recipient of the William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sport Scientist Award, which is given each year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. NSCA brings together professionals from the sport science, athletic, health and fitness industries to study and encourage proper strength training and conditioning to improve fitness and athletic performance.

The award is named for a former NSCA president who is among the first credited with applying science to the fields of strength and conditioning.

Stout received the award July 12 during NSCA’s national conference, held this year in Las Vegas. UCF professor Jay Hoffman, chair of the Department of Educational and Human Sciences, previously received the honor in 2007.

Stout joined UCF’s College of Education and Human Performance in January 2012. He oversees UCF’s Human Performance Lab, where students and researchers study healthy aging, athletic development and nutrition.
