The UCF community joined stargazers around the nation to watch the total solar eclipse that streaked a path across the United States on Monday, Aug. 21. UCF’s Planetary Sciences Group, the College of Sciences, and the student-run Astronomical Society hosted a viewing party 2-3:30 p.m. to mark the occasion.

Telescopes with special filters to safely observe the eclipse were set up at the Reflecting Pond, and volunteers handed out solar glasses and T-shirts. Professors and students studying planetary sciences answered questions about the eclipse that passed from Oregon to South Carolina. About 85 percent of the sun was blocked in Orlando.
