The American Heart Association’s fourth Heart Walk at UCF will be held Saturday, Sept. 10.

Heart disease and stroke are the United States’ No. 1 and No. 5 killers, respectively. The Heart Walk aims to raise awareness and $1.2 million to support research and prevention efforts.

Everyone traveling to or from UCF’s main campus on Saturday morning should allow extra time and be aware of road closures and parking areas that will be inaccessible during the walk.

Festivities will begin at 7 a.m. on Memory Mall and the walk will start at 7:30 a.m. Participants and UCF students and staff and faculty members who are participating in the Heart Walk are encouraged to arrive before 7 a.m. and should park in garages C, D or H.

Portions of Gemini Boulevard, Greek Park Drive and East and West Plaza drives will be closed from about 7:30 to 10 a.m.

Also during that time, vehicles will not be able to enter or leave all parking areas inside of the Gemini Boulevard loop and along East Plaza Drive and West Plaza Drive. This includes most parking garages, all C and D lots, most H lots and several B lots.

If you must leave campus between 7 and 10 a.m., please park your vehicle ahead of time in the Libra Garage or in one of these lots: B5-B8, located along Gemini Boulevard South near Central Florida Boulevard; B12 and B15, located along Libra Drive; or H10, located adjacent to Lake Claire on Gemini Boulevard North.

The campus entrances at McCulloch Road and North Orion Boulevard and at Gemini Boulevard North and Alafaya Trail will both be closed from 7 to 10 a.m. All other campus entrances will remain open throughout the day.

Portions of the Heart Walk route will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, and normal campus parking and traffic should resume by 10 a.m.
