Executives Spend Time Sharing Opportunities with Students

Did you know that employees in the timeshare industry earn 10-20% more than their hotel counterparts? Benefits of the timeshare industry, along with career opportunities and misconceptions, were recently shared with students at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida during  a timeshare industry information session on Jan. 9 in the campus’ Darden Auditorium.

The information session, facilitated by assistant professor Dr. Amy Gregory, featured a discussion panel of timeshare professionals, a video presentation, and information about the upcoming American Resort Development Association (ARDA) conference; including conference participation and scholarship opportunities.

Over the past year, UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management has quickly become one of the leading institutions for timeshare education and research, with Gregory spearheading many of its initiatives. The college is currently just one of nine academic institutions in the nation to be a member of ARDA, and has already established corporate internships with industry-leading organizations, academic scholarship opportunities, and formed a timeshare advisory board.

Gregory has also contributed research articles to ARDA’s monthly publication Developments, and is leading various research initiatives in which timeshare companies are actively participating.

The U.S. timeshare business has grown to become a significant component of the hospitality industry, generating over $70 billion in economic output in 2011, and employing 493,000 workers, with $23 billion in salaries, according to an Ernst & Young study.

With over 20,000 vacation ownership units, Orlando, Fla. is home the greatest concentration of timeshare resorts and corporations, which provides many exciting opportunities to UCF’s Rosen College and its students.
