A summer camp to teach computer science to students in grades 8-12 will be offered by Burnett Honors College Summer Institute.
Students in the three-week camp are taught in beginner, intermediate and advanced classes programming, and also take an elective, such as learning about artificial intelligence or other specialized topics that aren’t usually offered in high schools.
Some students that have gone through the summer camp have ended up at the school of their choice, such as MIT, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Florida and UCF, said Jill Norburn, director of student affairs at the honors college.
“It is so hard to find academic-related summer camps for teenaged students at a university campus,” Norburn said. “This program really helps build students resumes for college applications, they learn a lot of material, and they rave about it. Plus, it is right here on campus.”
The weekday camp will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 2-20. The $995 fee covers books, materials, programming competition, ceremonies, field trips, ID cards and shirts.
