SGA to Host Campus Watch Party for Ireland Game on Aug. 30

With students back on campus and UCF’s Fiesta Bowl championship football team in action across the pond in Ireland, the Student Government Association is inviting the Orlando community to come and watch the Knights take on Penn State outside the entrance of CFE Arena at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30.

“This event will be a great opportunity for our UCF community to cheer alongside the Orlando community,” said SGA Athletics Coordinator Rocco Russo. “I encourage all students to attend this event, and SGA will be providing 500 free limited edition t-shirts to commemorate this experience”

The watch party, in collaboration with UCF’s Office of Student Involvement and the UCF Athletics Association, will feature UCF’s pep band, cheerleaders and appearances from other varsity athletic teams. The event will also include half-time entertainment and free giveaways sponsored by CFE Federal Credit Union.

With the watch party open to the community, SGA is anticipating more than 2,000 people in attendance, including 750 students. Admission is free for the standing-room only event — limited seating will also be available.

“This is truly a unique experience for our entire university,” said James Gilmore, Assistant Director of External Operations. “This watch party will be a great event for our students and the community to come together and watch our Knights battle a competitive Penn State team. With our first home football game not until Sept. 20, the watch party will be an excellent opportunity for new students to meet one another and experience the atmosphere of a UCF football game without actually being at one.”
