Abraham Pizam, dean and Linda Chapin Eminent Scholar Chair in Tourism Management at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, is the 2011 recipient of the Anthony Marshall Award, presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.
This award recognizes an individual who has made significant long-term contributions to the hospitality industry in educating future leaders.
Pizam’s award was acknowledged during the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Summer Summit in Atlanta, during the AH&LA Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 15. Because he was unable to attend the Atlanta event, Pizam was presented with his award during a visit to AHLEI’s Orlando office on June 7.
Pizam is widely known in the field of hospitality and tourism management. He has been with UCF since 1983 and dean of the Rosen College since 2001.
Prior to that, he held teaching positions in the hospitality programs at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and Haifa University and Tel Aviv University in Israel. He has also been a visiting professor at numerous universities in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Switzerland.
Over the years, he has shared his knowledge with the academic community through more than 150 published papers and articles and 10 books. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Hospitality Management and serves on the editorial boards of 20 other academic journals.
