The Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida is continuing its mission to develop future generations of global hospitality and tourism leaders, as it hosts its third annual Summer Hospitality & Tourism Industry Seminar, July 9 – Aug. 4, for students of Kyung Hee University. The four-week-long Seminar is an opportunity for 30 Hospitality and Tourism majors from the College’s South Korean sister university to receive first-hand learning experience in the world’s largest hospitality and tourism laboratory – Orlando, FL.
Created and coordinated by UCF Rosen College assistant professor Dr. Youngsoo Choi, the Summer Hospitality & Tourism Industry Seminar is designed to provide the future business leaders of the Korean hospitality and tourism industry with an opportunity to develop global perspectives.
The annual Seminar includes presentations and discussion sessions instructed by UCF Rosen College faculty members in the subject areas of Lodging Operations, Theme Park and Attraction Management, Hospitality Feasibility, Event/Convention Management, and Destination Marketing/Management.
In addition to classroom presentations, the Seminar also includes site visits to some of Orlando’s world-renowned resorts and attractions, including Walt Disney World Resort, Rosen Shingle Creek, Wyndham at Bonnet Creek, the Orlando/Orange County Convention Center and the Amway Center.
Most recently, the 2012 cohort of Kyung Hee University students visited Universal Studios, where they received a guided tour from the theme park’s management, as well as academic insight from UCF Rosen College assistant professor Dr. Duncan Dickson.
The Summer Hospitality & Tourism Industry Seminar was developed in 2010 when UCF Rosen College Dean, Dr. Abraham Pizam, and Dr. Chulwon Kim, Dean of College of Hotel and Tourism Management at Kyung Hee University, agreed to promote a variety of mutual education and research benefits to both students and faculty members. Both the College and University encourage international learning to bridge cultural and social gaps by promoting mutual understanding.
