PRIME STEM/TRiO Peer Mentor Wins

Sharanah Ridore is the 2013 recipient of the Black Faculty and Staff Association Mentee Award at the UCF. She has been a peer mentor for PRIME STEM/Student Support Services at UCF since 2011 and a Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences peer mentor since 2010.

In her role as a peer mentor, she is available to her mentees through social media, face to face meetings, email, social events and one-on-one opportunities. She is an outstanding mentor and goes above and beyond to enrich the lives of her mentees and truly feels responsible for the success.

Currently, a senior at UCF double majoring in Molecular and Microbiology as well as English Literature, Ridore has received several academic honors since 2009. She made the President’s Honor Roll twice: fall 2012 and in 2009. She also made the Dean’s list five times: spring 2010, ’11, ’12 and fall 2010 and ‘11. After graduation, she plans to attend an allopathic or osteopathic school of medicine in hopes of becoming a physician.

In addition to mentoring, Ridore is involved in campus activities. She is the vice president of Students in Science Technology Engineering and Math (SiSTEM), the director of Fundraising for Pre-Med AMSA, and now the director of Public Relations.

PRIME STEM/TRiO is a program in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.
