The University of Central Florida will conduct a prescribed burn in the Arboretum all day today.
Several acres will be burned in the Arboretum east of Gemini Boulevard East between parking garages C and D. Passersby may see or smell smoke depending on the direction of the wind.
Prescribed burns, which remove dead, decaying or low-lying plants on the forest floor, are a management technique used to maintain healthy ecosystems and to prevent unplanned fires from endangering nearby areas.
The Florida Forest Service will assist UCF’s Landscape and Natural Resources staff with the burn.
