The University of Central Florida plans a prescribed burn, weather permitting, on Tuesday, Dec. 9, or Wednesday, Dec. 10.
As many as 12 acres will be burned in the Arboretum across Gemini Boulevard East from parking garages C and D. Community members may see or smell smoke depending on the direction of the wind.
Prescribed burns, which remove dead, decaying or low-lying plants on the forest floor, are a management technique used to maintain healthy ecosystems and to prevent unplanned fires from endangering nearby areas.
The Florida Park Service will be assisting UCF’s Landscape and Natural Resources staff with the burn. Anyone with concerns may call 407-722-4725.
