They fought for our country, and now thousands of veterans find themselves fighting to find a job. The number of unemployed veterans also is expected to grow as troops continue to be pulled from overseas.

To help local veterans and their families find work, Wells Fargo and the UCF College of Business Administration will host the second annual Central Florida Veterans Job Fair on Friday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Venue on UCF’s main campus.

“As a company, we greatly value and support our returning servicemen and women as they transition to civilian life,” said Larisa Perry, Wells Fargo’s regional president for Central Florida. “This event will help to connect veterans with employers and organizations that appreciate their skills, service and leadership. We are proud to be part of this effort and are committed to giving back to those former servicemen and women who have given so much to us.”

The job fair, offered in partnership with OrlandoJobs.com, will match motivated job seekers with top employers from around the region, all while raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The event is being organized and managed by the College of Business Administration Student Ambassadors along with a variety of campus organizations. The students aim to bring 100 employers to meet more than 1,000 job seekers, and they hope to raise more than $25,000 in employer-registration fees, which will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit veterans-service organization that offers programs, services and events for wounded veterans of military actions following the events of 9/11/2001.

“I volunteered to make a difference in someone’s life that is positive. Not to receive a thank you, but for the gratification of helping those who placed their lives on the line for me,” said Dionte Madden, president of the Central Florida Veterans Job Fair Committee and a student ambassador.

The event and parking will be free for all attendees, and the fair also will include on-site employment workshops and information from a variety of nonprofit veterans’ services.
