A new speaker series will bring experts from around the country to UCF in fields as diverse as climate change and cybersecurity.
The Office of Faculty Excellence launched the series this semester, aligning it with the university’s new Faculty Cluster Initiative, which involves groups of faculty members from different disciplines working together to develop research and teaching around a multidisciplinary issue, such as renewable energy or intelligent prosthetics.
While on campus, these researchers will meet with and present their work to UCF faculty and students and learn about the university’s successes in these areas.
The upcoming talks scheduled in the Faculty Excellence Speaker Series are:
Synchronized Phasor Measurement Data and Their Applications in Power Systems, presented by Dr. Joe H. Chow, professor of electrical, computer and systems engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, on Friday, Jan. 15.
Adaptive Planning for Coastal Resistance Under Climate Change, presented by Dr. Zhenghong Tang, associate professor in the Community and Regional Planning Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, on Friday, Jan. 22.
Big Data Security and Privacy, presented by Dr. Elisa Bertino, professor of computer science at Purdue University, on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Why We Do and Don’t Worry About Climate Change, presented by Dr. Kenny Broad, professor and chair of marine ecosystems and society at the University of Miami, on Monday, Feb. 1.
Next-generation Sequencing to Link Genotype and Phenotype in Birds, presented by Dr. Scott V. Edwards, professor of zoology at Harvard University, on Monday, Feb. 8.
