Naomi Tutu, race and gender justice activist and daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, will speak Thursday, March 20, on the topic of “Striving for Justice: Searching for Common Ground.” The event will be held at 3 p.m. in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union.
Tutu’s presentation, sponsored by the UCF Global Perspectives Office, celebrates our shared humanity and the diversity that exists in the world. Through her work, she encourages others to find ways to live with and respect the differences in people around them.
The challenges of growing up black and female in apartheid South Africa led Tutu to her present role as an activist for human rights. Her professional experience ranges from development consultant in West Africa to program coordinator for programs on race and gender and gender-based violence in education at the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town. Tutu has established Nozizwe Consulting which holds Truth and Reconciliation workshops for different types of conflict.
