Multicultural and First Generations Recognized

Multicultural and first generation students [1] have set their goals in action with their academic achievements. On February 26, the Office of Multicultural Academic and Support Services hosted its annual recognition celebration, Excellence in Action. Over 300 multicultural and first generation students were recognized with a certificate and ribbon for achieving a 3.5+ GPA in Fall 2015, as well as overall.

The program began with a warm welcome and congratulations by Anthony Jenkins, senior associate vice president and dean of students for Student Development and Enrollment Services. During his remarks, he had students stand up and introduce themselves to other students, emphasizing the importance of community in achievement.

Keynote speaker Elizabeth Dooley, vice provost for Teaching and Learning and dean for College of Undergraduate Studies, shared some of her experiences and encouraged students to stay on the course of Excellence.

Students were joined by their families and friends in the celebration. Families were also recognized and thanked for their support.
