Thirty-two seniors enrolled in a Hospitality Communications class recently enjoyed the opportunity to network face-to-face with professionals from various hospitality companies.

Instructor Amy Gregory coordinated the “mocktail” party event that put the students in touch with 12 industry executives without having to leave the classroom. “The in-class event simulated a cocktail party (without alcohol) and allowed the students to interact with industry professionals as they would in a social business setting,” shares Gregory.

Students donned professional attire and were prepared with newly prepared personal portfolios, including resumes, cover letters, business cards, reference letters and reference lists.

Over the course of the 75-minute class, students and professionals engaged in lively discussions regarding career aspirations, portfolio feedback and opportunities.

Event feedback indicated that students enjoyed the opportunity to implement classroom learning in a real-world setting.  One student commented, “The mocktail party was a good opportunity to practice what I had learned, but let me break out and ask for feedback from industry executives.”

The professional guests enjoyed the event as well. Gregory shares, “Several of the attendees exchanged business cards and indicated that they intend to follow up with the students.”

Rosen College is proud to have strong industry ties and appreciates those professionals that help cultivate tomorrow’s hospitality and tourism leaders.
