Close to 300 middle and high school students, parents and counselors attended the April 23rd College Prep Day, a community outreach program sponsored by Multicultural Academic and Support Services. The purpose of College Prep Day is to help multicultural and first generation middle and high school students and their parents better understand the steps necessary for admission into a college or university.
The College Prep Day was a true UCF collaborative effort. Representatives from Student Financial Affairs, Undergraduate Admissions, SDES TRIO Programs [Upward Bound and STEM], and the McNair Scholars Program provided important information to high school students and their parents about what it takes to be admitted to college and achieve success. There were also panels of outstanding first generation and multicultural student leaders and scholars who shared their experiences and insight with the participants. UCF Athletics arranged for middle school students to attend a tour of the Bright House Networks Stadium where they were greeted by outstanding student-athletes who also shared their college journey.
“Our main objective is not recruitment, though many of the students do want to be UCF Knights one day. Our goal is to let these students know the importance of a college degree, and that they can achieve their dreams,” said Wayne Jackson, MASS director.
