Magazine Recognizes Success of UCF Incubation Program

UCF’s Business Incubation Program is one of four successful start-up resource programs around the nation recognized in the latest Entrepreneur Magazine.

The magazine – with help from the National Business Incubation Association – selected UCF’s program from the more than 1,250 incubators in the nation.

Entrepreneur said: “The program hosts more than 120 startups in mixed-use facilities that cater to a wide variety of new businesses that helped, in a small way, carry Central Florida through the recession — the program created 1,500 new jobs and generated revenues in excess of $60 million between 2009 and 2011.”

UCF’s program also is a key contributor to the 23-county Florida High Tech Corridor, which focuses on sectors such as agri-tech, aerospace and sustainable energy. Since its founding in 1999, the program has graduated 85 companies, created more than 3,000 jobs, and had a $360 million annual impact on metro Orlando.

Entrepreneur also recognized the efforts of:

  • High Tech Rochester in West Henrietta, N.Y., which has targeted technology-based small businesses since 1987, especially those in life sciences, biotech and clean energy.
  • Northeast Indiana Innovation Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., which has served as a launching pad for more than 30 early stage companies that specialize in biomedical science, information technology, advanced security and manufacturing.
  • Santa Fe Business Incubator in Santa Fe, N.M., which has generated revenues in excess of $100 million, more than 75 businesses and more than 800 new jobs.
