Millican Society donors were treated to an up-close-and-personal conversation with Dr. Deborah German, vice president for medical affairs and founding dean of the UCF College of Medicine last week at the medical campus at Lake Nona. Named for UCF’s founding president, the Millican Society recognizes individuals who have made plans for the future of UCF and its students by including the university in their estate plans.
Dean German thanked the group for their support and talked about the transformational power of philanthropy. “The UCF College of Medicine is here today because of people like, you,” she said. She noted that Central Florida’s philanthropic spirit enabled each member of the college’s charter class to graduate debt free, just as she did when she was in medical school. Participants were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the state-of-the art facility; including an inside look at the technology that drives 21st Century healthcare.
UCF Foundation CEO Robert Holmes echoed Dean German’s sentiment in his welcome remarks and celebrated the shared vision of UCF and the generous community partners whose time, talent and resources made the Medical City a reality. Donald Hale, director of Gift Planning at the UCF Foundation expressed his gratitude. “Our Millican Society members know that education transforms lives,” he said. “Their commitment to the university is not only larger than life, it transcends life.”
Planned gift commitments will be a vital component of UCF’s next comprehensive capital campaign. Since July 2011, donors have documented more than $15 million in future gifts to UCF.
