More than 300 people attended a student-sponsored Islam Awareness Month event featuring Imam Siraj Wahhaj on Feb. 25.

A diverse audience listened and engaged in questions and answers with Wahhaj for nearly two hours. The event generated significant local and national attention.

“Community” is one of the five components of the UCF Creed, which helps guide the university’s decisions. Addressing community, the Creed calls for UCF to “promote an open and supportive campus environment by respecting the rights and contributions of every individual.”

“By supporting free speech and the open exchange of ideas at this student-sponsored event, UCF helped foster a spirited, but respectful, conversation about an important issue,” said UCF spokesperson Grant J. Heston.

The event was sponsored by the Muslim Student Association.
