NPR Newscaster, Human-Trafficking Survivors Featured in Spring Events

Multiple distinguished visitors, including NPR’s Jamie McIntyre and Naomi Tutu, a race and gender justice activist, will speak at UCF this semester.

The presentations will be hosted by the UCF Global Perspectives Office, which strives to broaden awareness and understanding on campus and in the community about global issues. Each event connects to the office’s annual theme for 2013-2014, “What is Global is Local.”

The events, which are free and open to the public, include:

  • “One Billion Rising: The New Face of South Asia,” featuring “All Things Considered” radio newscaster Jamie McIntyre, alongside India-studies expert Persis Khambatta. They will provide insights on how the youth of South Asia are changing the subcontinent. The program will be 3 p.m. Jan. 21 in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union.
  • “Human Trafficking Awareness Forum: Survivor Perspectives,” featuring three women who will share their firsthand knowledge of different facets of the sex-trafficking industry on Feb. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Key West Ballroom of the Student Union. Advance registration is required and provided at no cost.
  • “Striving for Justice: Searching for Common Ground,” a presentation by Naomi Tutu, daughter of retired Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who will discuss the diversity in the world and the ways we can live with and respect differences at 3 p.m. March 20 in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union.
