The recipient of the fellowship will be known as the Chatlos Fellow.
The gift is part of a Graduate Fellowship campaign that will help the Burnett school recruit and retain outstanding Ph.D. students.
William Chatlos, a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was born in 1889 and learned the craft of drafting house plans during night classes at the YMCA. He built his first house at age 17 and continued building houses, apartment and office buildings in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Florida until his death in 1977. In 1953, he founded The Chatlos Foundation, Inc. The foundation’s mission is to proclaim the Glory of God by funding nonprofit organizations across the globe. The organization’s areas of interest include bible colleges/seminaries, religious causes, medical and social concerns and liberal arts colleges.

Chatlos, III, vice president of the foundation. “Attracting the highest quality students in the field of medical research is an important goal of the university and one we fully support.”
To build premier academic programs in teaching, research and service, the College of Medicine must attract the best and brightest students. Faced with the high cost of post-graduate education, many top students ultimately choose a university based on its ability to provide strong fellowship funding. To help attract young scientists, the Burnett school is seeking community partners who will donate $10,000 to fund one year’s tuition for a Ph.D. student, or a five-year tuition gift of $50,000.
