Gallery 500 Serves Up ‘Medium Rare’ Summer Art Exhibit

UCF’s downtown Gallery 500 will host the opening of this summer’s featured group show, Medium Rare, which will showcase the works of several artists working toward their MFA in the university’s Emerging Media graduate program.

The opening, at 500 W. Livingston St., Orlando, is in conjunction with city’s Third Thursday community event. The show will be open to the public 6-9 p.m. Thursday and then by appointment at the gallery through July 27.

The works range from photography to mixed media to pieces created from found objects.

For example, Jason Flynn questions the role and definition of photography. His work is sculptural in exploring the role of “the object” and how photographs are perceived. And mixed media artist Masami Kosikawa questions her own identity in her works. She struggles with tradition, prejudice and the cultural significance of being Chinese, Japanese and American.

Other artists at the show are: Shelly Bradon, Stephanie Cafcules, David Dannelly, Gary Dufner, Emilie Finney and Dominic Dipaolo. Refreshments also will be served at the opening.

Gallery 500 is in UCF’s Center for Emerging Media, which is home to a diverse group of teachers, students and industry professionals collaborating in an environment that emphasizes high production values and techniques and cutting-edge technologies.
