‘Florida Trend’ Highlights UCF Transformation Under President Hitt

UCF’s rise to national prominence under the direction of President John C. Hitt is featured in the latest edition of Florida Trend magazine.

“Strength in Numbers,” the cover story in the June edition that focuses on higher education in the state, chronicles the past 25 years of the university as it tripled in enrollment to more than 64,000 students and has become known for its research, partnerships and caliber of students.

The president – who arrived at UCF in 1992 – also has transformed the physical appearance of the onetime commuter school by overseeing more than $1 billion in construction projects including a medical college, student union, football stadium, basketball arena, regional campuses and other facilities. And just this month the university broke ground on UCF Downtown, a joint project with Valencia College to serve 7,700 students when it opens in 2019.

Florida Trend’s print edition hits newsstands Sunday, May 28.
