Making UCF the Best it Can Be

The annual Faculty & Staff Campaign [1], believe, spotlights employee giving and provides opportunities to enhance programs and create new experiences for current and future Knights.

The campaign kicks off on February 5 and runs through February 27. A kick-off social event is scheduled for February 5 at Tropical Smoothie Café [2], 12201 Research Parkway. The time is 3-4 p.m. Additional social events will take place throughout the campaign.

“Employee participation says to the Central Florida community that we are united in a common goal: making UCF the best it can be, now and in the future,” says UCF President John C. Hitt.

The employee giving campaign started small and has grown significantly. In 2006 a modest number of College of Engineering and Computer Science employees raised several thousand dollars for campus wide programs. It was the first time a campaign of this type had been attempted at UCF, and the results were promising. It grew steadily every year and in 2012 reached a participation milestone, with every area on campus involved for the first time. In 2013 an all-time high in donations was reached.

Last year, rather than seeking to increase the total amount of dollars raised, the goal was to increase the number of faculty and staff members who participated in the campaign. “That’s because,” according to President Hitt, “the number of faculty and staff members who give says as much as the amount they give.”

A record-breaking number of staff members stepped up to show support in the 2014 campaign – 1,380 participants, a significant increase from the previous year.  Each of those people gave to UCF for his or her own unique reason, but a desire to give back to an institution that has given so much to so many is a reason shared by most.
