Faculty members from each college were recognized for excellence in teaching, advising, research and other categories during UCF’s annual Founders’ Day ceremony.
The University Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching: Alisha Janowsky,
College of Sciences. Janowsky is assistant chair in the Psychology Department and director of the undergraduate program. She received her Ph.D. in social psychology from Florida Atlantic University in 2004 and joined the UCF faculty in 2006. Since then, she has taught 10 different courses and served on dozens of university, college, and departmental committees. Janowsky has also held faculty fellowships with both the Karen L. Smith Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning and the Center for Distributed Learning.

University Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching: Glenn W. Lambie, College of Education and Human Performance. Lambie is a professor of counselor education and serves as chair for the Department of Child, Family and Community Services. He previously served as associate chair for the department and from 2005-2014 was the school counseling program director for the UCF Counselor Education and School Psychology Program. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond, master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and doctoral degree from The College of William & Mary. Lambie has practiced in the field of counseling for 20 years. Prior to coming to UCF, he was a counselor educator at Chapman University in California and Appalachian State University in North Carolina. He has also worked as a family and individual therapist, and as a professional school counselor.

University Award for Excellence in Professional Academic Advising: Rex Roberts,
Burnett Honors College. Roberts is director of honors advising. He joined The Burnett Honors College in 2006 after four years as an academic advisor with UCF’s office of First Year Advising and Exploration. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2000 and master’s degree in 2003, both from UCF.
University Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Faculty Academic Advising: Patricia Angley, Arts and Humanities, and Peter Jacques, Political Science.
Angley is an associate lecturer and advisor of undergraduate programs. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1998. Her research interests are 20th and 21st century American Literature, women writers and feminist theory, and contemporary Native American literature, among others.
Jacques is an associate professor of political science and teaches environmental politics (global, urban, domestic and a class about sustainability, which covers the ways in which societies sustain themselves or fail). He also is managing executive editor for the Journal of Environmental Studies and Science, a journal for the Association of Environmental Studies and Science. He earned a Ph.D. from Northern Arizona University in 2003 and has taught at UCF since then.
University Award for Excellence in Research: Zenghu Chang, College of Sciences and CREOL, The College of Optics & Photonics. Chang is a professor of physics and optics, and serves as director of the Institute for the Frontier of Attosecond Science and Technology.
He graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China in 1982, and earned a doctorate at the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 1988. From 1991 to 1993, Chang visited the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory sponsored by the Royal Society fellowship. He worked at the University of Michigan and Kansas State University, where he was promoted to the Ernest & Lillian Chapin Professor. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society. His group at UCF holds the current world record for generating the shortest laser pulse.

College of Arts and Humanities, and William T. Self, College of Medicine.
Scott is a professor and director of undergraduate studies for the Department of Writing and Rhetoric. He earned a bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Oklahoma in 1991, master’s from the University of Oklahoma in 1994, and Ph.D. from Penn State University in 1999. He came to UCF in 2002 after teaching at University of Florida, Penn State and Oklahoma.
Self is an associate professor of microbial metabolism in the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences and last year was the College of Medicine’s winner for excellence in undergraduate teaching. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1998 and later studied at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He has taught and conducted research at UCF since 2003, and has voluntarily conducted a Super Scientist class at an Oviedo elementary school for several years after becoming involved with the school when his son was a student.
The Award for Excellence in Librarianship
Michael A. Arthur is head of acquisitions and collection services and has worked at UCF since 2010. He received a Bachelor of Science in Sport Marketing & Management in 1991, Master of Library Science in 1999 from Indiana University, and Master of Public Administration from Old Dominion University in 2006. He has served as chair of the Collection Planning Committee for the state universities in Florida, and as co-chair of the Collection Development Committee for the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries.
