Diversity Week Features Presentations, Workshops, Fun

Presentations, service projects, field day activities, workshops and other events are scheduled Oct. 15-19 for the University of Central Florida’s 20th-annual Diversity Week.

The observance planned by the Office of Diversity Initiatives kicks off Monday with an 8 a.m. breakfast and guest speaker at the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. Dr. Marc A. Nivet, chief diversity officer for the Association of American Medical Colleges, will discuss how quality diversity adds to professional environments. Registration for the breakfast has closed.

Another highlight of the week is the “Beacon Network Forum – Champions of Change” panel whose members will share their paths of expanding inclusion in Central Florida. Scheduled to attend the session are: Bassem Chaaban, director of operations for the Islamic Society of Central Florida; Sister Ann Kendrick, co-founder of the Hope Community Center in Apopka; and Mary Meeks, an advocate for Orlando’s anti-discrimination ordinance.

The program will be from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Student Union’s Cape Florida Ballroom, room 316.

Student Development and Enrollment Services will hold an Inclusion and Diversity Showcase from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Ferrell Commons Auditorium. The showcase will feature how departments and organizations in SDES serve and support students on a daily basis. There will be food, fun and live entertainment.
